It’s official! I am a member of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network’s TEAMHOPE for the 2012 ING NYC Marathon. Between now and October I have to raise $3200 for a bib in the race on November 4.
Why run for TEAMHOPE you ask? I wanted to challenge myself to complete the NYC Marathon after watching it last year and feeling the comradery. And for 2012 I am committed to raising awareness and money for cancer research and treatment. According to the American Cancer Society, pancreatic cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer death in the United States—and has the highest mortality rate of all the major cancers, yet it receives very little federal funding and attention.
My Aunt Shelly is part of the 6% of those diagnosed who survive more than five years. She continues to inspire me and other young people like me to face tough situations and attack them with faith and grace. So I am running to celebrate her and other survivors and the family members of both those who have survived and those who have not.
Help me raise awareness and money for research and treatment by donating today. Follow this link to visit my personal web page.
