So we’ve been without power since Monday thanks to Sandy (the hurricane that is). We’ve been a bit inconvenienced because we don’t have lights, heat or hot water BUT we are counting our blessings as we know there are many people who have a lot more to deal with than we do.
We’ve managed to make it this far by heading to my aunT’s house where there’s no power but there’s heat, hot water and a working stove. Thank goodness for our little wind up radio and the library for charging power.
It’s during times like these that we realize what great people are in our communities. My fellow holistic moms of Essex County NJ have offered everything from a warm cup of tea to a warm shower for those of us in need. Friends have continuously checked in just to see how things are going. I’m telling you, words can do a lot more than we give them credit for. Remember the saying “sticks and stones my break my bones but words will never hurt me”. Well I disagree, words can do A LOT, they can hurt BUT they can also help, or heal for that matter. It’s up to us😉. We have to choose our wirds wisely because you never know what affect they may have on the recipient. Ok thanks for listening to that rant.
Now back to Sandy. With all of the maddens she caused, the NYC Marathon plans have been shaken up a bit. I can’t seem to figure out how to get to the Javitz Center for the expo to pick up my bib and sign up for transportation. But I’m still amazed by the spirit and unstoppable attitude of New Yorkers. The race is STILL ON!! And now they’ve been able to set up accounts for donations for hurricane relief. Not a bad idea if you ask me. I love running communities. They are usually extremely giving, passionate and in love with the communities they run in.
I had to go back to work today😏. Bitter-sweet feeling I must say. I didn’t want to leave my little one but at least we all got a little heat and I got to charge up our devices. Oh and put a smile on a few faces. That’s the best part!!
Hope you’re staying safe and warm. And my prayers go out to all of you who have been tremendously affected by this DARN STORM.
