365 Grateful

Day 62:
I am grateful for a coworker who has very inspirational activities during her weekly meetings. Today there was an overflow so she shared and my “fortune cookie” inspiration quote was “You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection.” ~Buddha what a great way to start the week!

Day 63:
I am grateful for wake up cuddles and songs.

Day 64:
I am grateful for time to read. I only got through about 4 pages before I dosed off but it was nice to read.

Day 65:
Bean counted to 20!! And I understood 18 of the numbers. Hehe!

Day 66:
I am grateful for a crab feed. And a boy who was more excited about the salad and a lemon than the crab meat AND was content with 1 oatmeal cookie and a cup of tea for dessert😊

Day 67:
I’m so grateful for a pockets of women from all over who are committed to birth justice. BWBJ meetings ALWAYS fill me with inspiration!

Day 68:
I’m grateful for SoapBoxSoap! The eucalyptus bar smells SO good! AND it doesn’t have much in it.

365 Grateful

Day 55
Grateful for my parenting by connections pamphlets that I received today. I’m loving all these parenting lessons…I will continue to share and one day have a center to share these in my community.

Day 56:
I am grateful for my lunch!

Day 57:
I am grateful for Bean’s excitement about pumping milk for Sprout. No matter what I say he’s determined to get some milk for his brother. I wonder how long this will last and I can’t wait to learn what conversations will be like with his wife. We’ve got time for that but hey we’re off to a good start🍼😏(nursing emoji here) #dadssupportbreastfeedingtoo

Day 58:
I’m grateful for special time with Sprout. Bean came home sleep and I was able to have one on one time with my little rollie pollio…and he was rolling all over the place!!

Day 59:
Today I am grateful for my pump break at work. Sometimes just the thought of nursing my boy calms me down and helps me focus.

Day 60:
Grateful for pizza party with just Bean and me. “I’m happy mom!” And he says this looking at me with a smile #melting

Day 61:
African dance class WITH my boys! I love that Oakland has so many family friendly events that encourage parents to “do life” with your children. I danced with a child on my back at different points off the class and was even encouraged to bring a drum for Bean to play next time since he was so interested.

Grateful for shoe trains. I hope we can find all the shoes. LOL

Day 52:
Grate for my aunt and the clean laundry I can home to.

Day 53:
We had a very productive Saturday. Hair cut with Uncle, soccer practice, a walk, a nap (at least for Bean, which is rare) and a little cleaning.

Happy Anniversary!!

I debated about sharing this post but then I remembered that I started this blog to share what I learn as I go on this journey called life. So here you go. From being married for 5 years I’ve learned that life happens and you just have to role with it sometimes. I’ve also learned that I have the power to make the best out of what happens and to learn from EVERY situation.

On this day 5 years ago I married my husband and although we are separated right now I want to recognize our union. I’m not one to go around bashing a black man, we have enough people doing that, just because we are not on the best of terms. So while many people continue to say “that’s” just the way men are…men are sorry…insert what you want here, I’m choosing to recognize the greatness of the man I married and will continue to pray for forgiveness and for us to be happy again, hopefully that will be together, but if not I will ALWAYS respect what we had while together. If it weren’t for our union I wouldn’t be who I am today and I wouldn’t have my boys. (And y’all know what they mean to me😊).

5 great things about my husband on our 5th anniversary.
1. He’s very creative and artistic
2. Working with children is one of his gifts. They seem to connect with him and he’s able to teach them because of that connection. I remember being amazed by him as he taught HIV/AIDS awareness through drama to 7 and 8 year old children.
3. He’s pretty patient and kind most of the time.
4. He can be very silly and playful when I’m feeling down.
5. He dreams BIG!! And I know he’ll realize some of his dreams.

So here’s to my husband. And for those who continue to be supportive, I say thank you. And to those who wonder how you can be supportive I ask you to keep lifting us up in your prayers.

Day: 41
I am grateful for the look on Bean’s face when he’s pleasantly surprised.

Day 42:
I’m grateful for my coworkers who get the importance of breastfeeding!! Look at my new sign. 🍼(insert nursing emoji here😉)

Day 43:
no picture but today I’m grateful for my brain and the thoughts that continue to flow. At times I feel like my head is about to explode becasue there is so much going on in there. I’ve been really frustrated, confused, overwhelmed, excited, conflicted, eager… you name it. But today I decided to embrace all that is going on in there and it is comforting (at least for now)😉

Day 44:
I’m grateful for the mail!! I received the shirt I purchased to support Mamatoto Village Inc., an organization that helps prepare birth workers and provides natural birthing services to women of color in the DC Metro area. I love the message on the shirt and the design is GREAT!!br />

Day 45:
I’m grateful for a positive working environment. This is my first time putting a bit of home in my workspace. I’m really enjoying my work environment and am reminded daily how important it is to be passionate about the work you do. Or do the work that you are passionate about and great things will come.

Day 46:
Bean had his first soccer practice!! He loved it and was even bumped to the 3-4 year old group. Can’t wait for this to happen on a weekly basis.

Day 47:
I’m grateful for family fun at a kids reggae concert!

New Month and Still Grateful

Day 34:
Grateful for the little things that bring so much joy. Bean LOVES his rain boots.20140203-230133.jpg

Day 35:
I’m grateful for my sistercousin’s awareness. She spotted this sign near an office at her school, Barnard College. Way to go Barnard!! Happy nursing, pumping, mommying!

Day 36:
I am grateful for inspiration. I say in on a meeting and heard my boss speak with so much knowledge and passion about our work. This working environment has been great, I’m learning so much everyday and I LOVE it. Definitely a huge difference from my previous job.

Day 37:
Bean and I had a nice breakfast together this morning. That is rare during the week but we both enjoyed starting our Thursday this way.

Day 38:
Grateful for the Nosefrida snotsucker that has helped me help Sprout breathe.

Day 39:
Guess who’s singing his ABCs?!?! YAY! Now we busted out the flash cards. And he LOVES it!!

Day 40:

365 Grateful

Day 27:
Grateful for big brother practicing writing while little brother plays so I can get dinner on the table. The sweetest part is when Sprout drops his toy and starts to get a little fussy, Bean puts his marker down, gives his brother his toy and gets back to his writing. “I get it mom!” Such a big boy! I swear I never could have imagined that I could get so much joy from so many small acts of kindness. #ilovemotherhood #brothers

Day 28:
Grateful for my ergo. I would NOT have been able to get Sprout’s doctor’s appointment done with Bean sleep. He slept on my back for the entire appointment. I’m also grateful for the pediatric naturopath who saw us on time got us out in an hour and gave me advice for both boys that didn’t include any prescriptions. And it didn’t feel rushed AT ALL. I was given probiotics for the entire family to take and encouraged to continue what I’ve been doing: steam, eucalyptus, elevation, elderberry (as advised by my Holistic Moms Network mamas😉).

Day 29:
I am grateful for my fro today. LOL I’m starting to get the hang of my natural hair without locs. Today was the first time I pic’d out my fro since cutting my locs a year ago.

Day 30:
I had a great impromptu conference call with my sistercousins tonight. It was so much fun and felt like we were in the same space for that time. We talked about some stuff, laughed, a snack was enjoyed. It was great!! I loved it. Boy do I miss them. No pic because we were on the phone 😉.

Day 31:
I woke up to my boys cuddling, AKA Bean squeezing Sprout, and it made me so happy. I know it was going to be a great day. Another reason why I love co-sleeping.

Day 32:
Grateful for an all day play date. It gave me a taste of what life may be like when Bean and Sprout can play together. And Bean’s friend, let’s call her Princess, takes such good care of him. A Rudy and Bud (from The Cosby Show) situation all the way!! LOL she even introduced him to a dance and movement teacher as “Sauce” (her special name for him). LOVE IT! So grateful for toddler friendships.

Day 33:
I am grateful for the nice Nelnet agent who was giving me news that I didn’t really WANT to hear about my darn student loans. That could have been a bad call but his attitude was great!

See you next week!!

Still Grateful

Day 20:
Grateful for eucalyptus oil and steam to help me get rid of Sprout’s congestion.

Day 21:
Grateful for an early bedtime. The last time I remember seeing on the clock was 8:17. No pic because I was SLEEP! 😊

Day 22:
Grateful that the reading of my sistercousin’s play went well. I can’t wait to see the actual play. Danielle Davenport is her nam, Always is her play.

Day 23:
Grateful for the mail today!! YAY!!

Day 24:
Bean is so patient with his puzzle cards. I love to watch him figure things out. And I love to here his little voice “help peeze mom”!

Day 25:
I can’t begin to explain how great the sharing circle with Black Women Birthing Justice. I absolutely LOVE to hear women’s birthing stories no matter how the birth happened. Women are so powerful and have to deal with waaayyyy too much when giving birth. We have to continue to share AND support one another. 20140126-001324.jpg

Day 26:
We started our day with family yoga this morning and I’m grateful for the new experience. I think we may incorporate this into our weekly routine.

365 Grateful

Day 13:
Grateful for a good first day at my new job. I really missed my boys but I’m also excited about this new gig. The best part is opening the door to their school and being greeted with tons of excitement and energy and things to share.

Day 14:
I just love Bean’s photo surprises on my phone AND my Happieness Journal. Especially after having a tough conversation on the phone!

Day 15:
It was nice to come home to little notes and surprises. I’m grateful for my family, can’t stay down when they’re around😄. 20140115-201712.jpg

Day 16:
Love & Contact event when they’re sleep they tend to move towards each other and connect in the sweetest way.

Day 17:
Tonight I am grateful for leftovers that I ate on a paper plate. No prep…no dishes…no clean up. Not that I have to cook most nights but it was nice. My mushroom burger with salad, avocado and mustard with a baked sweet potato on the side is in-my-belly. Mmm mmm good😋! Thanks Aunt Shelly.

Day 18:
Grateful to join a group of women doing great things for birthing justice. I needed that boost of motivation. Learn more here:

365 Grateful this Week

I’ve decided not to overload your email boxes so I’ll post all of my gratefulness for the week once a week. This is a great process especially when there are many things going on in my life that make me say hhmmmm! So here ya go:

Day 7:
I am grateful for Indian Food!

Day 8:
Excitement for learning makes me happy. Bean is loving school and after only 2 days he can’t stop calling people to tell them what he’s learned in school, not day care but “big boy school”. Keeping this fire burning will be tons of fun.

Day 9:
Today I went to Yoga For the People in Berkeley, CA for the first time and loved it! Pay what you can and all levels welcome. It was great! I also got a chiropractic adjustment at In Line Chiropractic in the Lakeshore area. I’m getting ready for my first day at my new job inward and outward. I’m grateful for good health
and maintenance!!

Day 10:
Gotta keep the flu away so sistercousin and I had an elderberry making party…oh and rosewater too.

Day 11: Grateful for Bean’s photography. I get to see the world through his eyes when I find surprise images on my phone.

Day 12:
I’m grateful for a toddler who will taste everything including kale and beet juice. (Another reason why eating healthy as a parent is very important) The verdict is in:
